Sunshine Coast police have launched an operation to curb anti-social behaviour and boost passenger safety across the region’s bus system.
Local officers are involved in Operation Yankee Course, run in partnership with the Department of Transport, to prevent assaults, property crime and other anti-social behaviour.
They have been patrolling bus stations at Caloundra, Maroochydore and Kawana, scanning for weapons in line with Jack’s Law, addressing unruly people and engaging directly with the community.
Police have also been working closely with senior network officers from the Department of Transport to identify and address safety concerns.
More bus and train stations across the district are expected to join the operation soon.

Maroochydore Station Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Jacob Flaherty said the operation has been successful around Maroochydore.
“We’ve seen a significant reduction in anti-social behaviour and an increase in public confidence in the safety of our transport networks,” he said.
Senior Sergeant Flaherty said public transport is an essential service and passengers should expect to see police engaging with the community.
“Everyone has the right to feel safe while travelling,” he said.
“By addressing safety concerns and taking proactive measures, we’re ensuring that public transport remains a reliable and secure option for all residents and visitors.”
Operation Yankee Course has been rolled out in other areas of South-East Queensland since 2023.
