A teenager has been charged following the alleged assault of another girl in Caloundra on Saturday night.

Police allege that the two teen girls, who are known to each other, were involved in an altercation on the Esplanade at Bulcock Beach about 8.10pm.

A 14-year-old was allegedly punched and kicked, before being taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital to have her injuries treated.

A 13-year-old Little Mountain girl was today charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

She will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Police thanked members of the public for their assistance.
