A Sunshine Coast trail run will be held for the final time this year following the closure of its host venue, Terella Brewing.

June’s Yandina Five ‘0’ will be its “fifth and final” event, with organisers describing it as a “big, special and sad” occasion.

Organiser Run Queensland posted to social media on March 20 saying the popular event would be finishing up.

Race director Brett Standring said the writing had been on the wall for some time, with organisers aware of the brewery’s ongoing discussions with Sunshine Coast Council over planning and permit issues.

“We love Terella and were hopeful that Terella would still be trading in June,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we found out that Terella would be closing in late February as they could no longer continue the legal battle with council to stay open.”

Despite the uncertainty, Mr Standring said permits and agreements were already in place for the 2026 race.

The event will be on June 13, with early bird entries extended to March 31, and organisers are encouraging runners to take part in a “massive celebration” send-off.

“We’ve got access to the venue and we can’t wait to celebrate the fifth edition of the Yandina Five ‘0’ with you all,” a post from Run Queensland said on February 27.

Terella, which began as a small brewery on rural land at North Arm, expanded over time to host large events, outdoor markets and family-focused activities. However, council compliance officers raised concerns that aspects of the operation exceeded its original development approvals and it closed last month amid prolonged legal battles.

“Terella is the home of the Yandina Five ‘0’,” Mr Standring said.

“The race has been based at one of the best family-orientated venues on the Sunshine Coast. The Yandina Five ‘0’ was a collaboration of two amazing small businesses that just loved sharing each other’s passion.”

Mr Standring said relocating the event was not a realistic option, with no comparable venue available.

“The event was based around Terella and the venue at North Arm had amazing trails and access to Mapleton National Park,” he said.

“We have looked for alternative venues and none come close … Run Queensland does not want to ruin the legacy of this event just so it can put an event on.”

The announcement had prompted a strong reaction from both runners and locals, he said.

“There has been a lot of upset local people regarding Terella’s closure and we have certainly had a lot of disappointed runners since Run Queensland announced its closure,” Mr Standring said.

Interest in the final race is high, with organisers expecting the 100-runner event to sell out. The event includes 50km, 36km, 21km and 12km courses through Mapleton National Park and private land.

Logistically, the biggest change will be the absence of the brewery’s on-site support, with organisers now responsible for the event hub.

“That is bringing in food trucks, entertainment, drinks and so on. Terella handled all this previously,” Mr Standring said.

“The team at Run Queensland, along with the team at Terella, have been assisting in making sure this year’s race is one to remember.”

While there is strong community sentiment, Mr Standring said the decision marked a definitive end.

“At this stage, this will be the final Yandina Five ‘0’. Without Terella trading … we have no other option,” he said.

“I would personally like to thank and say how grateful I am to Terella Brewing, private landholders and all the amazing people that have supported this event.”
