One of the Sunshine Coast’s most well-known stretches of walkway is about to get a makeover.
The 650m section of coastal path at Alexandra Headland, from the beach to the point, is set to be improved with a variety of features including an elevated boardwalk.
The stretch, which boasts stunning views, is widely used by locals and tourists. It is a popular route for walkers and joggers and is right next to one of the region’s most prominent surf breaks.
Work is set to start in “early 2026”, potentially in February, and a project update stated that it should be completed by July.
“The Alex Bluff Foreshore Coastal Pathway project will deliver a safer, more accessible and enjoyable experience along one of the Sunshine Coast’s most scenic coastal headlands,” it said.

“This upgrade forms part of the Sunshine Coast’s 73km Coastal Pathway, stretching from Bells Creek in the south to Coolum in the north. This section will be upgraded to better meet community expectations and current design standard.”
The existing 1.8m wide path will be renewed and widened to 3.5m. Other new features will include a viewing platform, which should suit surf watchers, eight seating and rest areas, shade trees and wildlife-friendly lighting.
The new 110m elevated boardwalk will be built through a tee-lined area just north of the Alex Bluff Foreshore Park.
It will improve wheelchair and mobility scooter access by replacing a steep, narrow section of pathway.

“Currently, there is no wheelchair accessible connection through this section,” the project team stated.
“Once complete, the project will provide continuous wheelchair access along the Coastal Pathway from Maroochydore to Mooloolaba.”
The project will be funded by the federal government and Sunshine Coast Council.
