A Sunshine Coast woman has been charged after an alleged deprivation of liberty incident involving a rideshare driver in Brisbane’s north.

Detectives from the Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch are appealing for information as investigations continue into the incident, which allegedly occurred in Hamilton on December 17.

Police will allege that around 12.20pm, the woman entered a rideshare vehicle on Kingsford Smith Drive, Hamilton, and threatened the driver while armed with a knife.

It is further alleged the woman made demands to be driven to Masters Avenue at Victoria Point, where she exited the vehicle before travelling by ferry to Coochiemudlo Island.

No one was injured during the incident.

Following investigations, police located the woman on Coochiemudlo Island, where she was taken into custody around 6.15pm.

A 33-year-old Birtinya woman has since been charged with two counts of obstructing a police officer and one count each of unlawful entry of a vehicle, threats and deprivation of liberty.
