A much-loved club has unveiled its latest transformation, turning its familiar sports bar into a stylish new hub that blends modern sophistication with a nod to the club’s history.
Lounge Seventy-Two has officially opened at Maroochy RSL, offering a vibrant atmosphere where comfort, entertainment and connection come together.
The redesigned space is part of a broader facility upgrade, aimed at providing an elevated experience for members and guests.
Lounge Seventy-Two has extended and opened the current space, creating an inviting ambience with stylish furniture and versatile seating arrangements to cater for casual catch-ups to celebratory nights out.
Maroochy RSL CEO Jason Scanes said that beyond the modern design and features, the transformation carried deep sentimental value.
“The name Lounge Seventy-Two is a proud tribute to our roots,” he said.
“The club first opened its doors as a licensed venue on September 8, 1972.
“This new lounge honours that history, blending nostalgia with a fresh vision for the future.
“We’re incredibly proud of what Lounge Seventy-Two represents – it’s not just a bar, it’s a new chapter in the story of Maroochy RSL.
“We can’t wait to welcome our community into this beautiful new space.”
The new-look area includes a cocktail bar serving expertly crafted drinks, intimate booth seating paired with a signature menu and a state-of-the-art screen for sports fans.
Guests can also enjoy a dedicated TAB area and an entertainment zone with a dance floor, featuring live music four nights a week and a calendar of specialty performances.
While the Maroochy RSL Sub-branch was established in 1932, the RSL club did not open until 1972 when it was unveiled by former Queensland Premier Sir Francis Nicklin.

In 1990 the venue had just 11 employees, a vast contrast to the 130 employees and 40 volunteers today.
Lounge Seventy-Two is now open seven days a week at Maroochy RSL, 105 Memorial Avenue, Maroochydore.
