A popular club will pay homage its 1970s roots by creating a nostalgic yet contemporary new bar.
Called Lounge Seventy-Two, the current Maroochy RSL sports bar is being transformed into the revamped drinking and dining space.
RSL CEO Jason Scanes said the name was a tribute to the service club’s roots.
“The club first opened its doors as a licensed venue on September 8, 1972,” he said.
“This new lounge honours that history, blending nostalgia with a fresh vision for the future.”

The redesigned space will extend and open up the current sports bar using stylish furniture and versatile seating.
Key features will include a cocktail bar and booth seating where patrons can dine from a signature menu.
After dinner patrons can head to the dancefloor in a dedicated entertainment zone where live music will play four nights a week.
Sports fans will be able to watch sport on a state-of-the-art TV screen, while a new dedicated TAB area will be added.
“We’re incredibly proud of what Lounge Seventy-Two represents – it’s not just a bar, it’s a new chapter in the story of Maroochy RSL,” Mr Scanes said.
“We can’t wait to welcome our community into this beautiful new space.”
The Maroochy RSL Sub-branch was established in 1932 but the RSL didn’t open until 1972. It was unveiled by former Queensland Premier Sir Francis Nicklin.
In 1990 the venue had just 11 employees, a vast contrast to the 130 employees and 40 volunteers today.
Lounge Seventy-Two is part of a broader upgrade to the RSL’s facilities.
“We are very excited to expand on Maroochy RSL’s offerings,” Mr Scanes said.
“The local population is evolving and we wanted to create a space with a modern feel, welcoming our members and guests to enjoy live music acts, premium local eats and a specialised drinks menu featuring Sunny Coast-made beverages.
“This local representation is important to us and we have partnered with producers who share the same ethos of showcasing the amazing produce and people that our Sunny Coast family celebrates.”
