Human remains have been found in the search for a missing man who was allegedly tortured.
Brisbane man Andrew Burow, 56, has not been seen since August 21, sparking a major police investigation into the “out of character disappearance”.
An extensive search has led to human remains being discovered at Maidenwell north of Brisbane.
The remains have not been formally identified but police are in contact with Mr Burow’s family.
Two men were charged with torture and three crime scenes established on the Sunshine Coast last week during the search for Mr Burow, a Brisbane cyber security expert.
The two men – aged 26 and 38 – faced Maroochydore Magistrates Court last week and remain in custody.
Police on Monday appealed for information relating to three vehicles and locations of interest including roads around Blackbutt, a two hour drive north from Brisbane.
Afterwards a Crime Stoppers report was received about a Blackbutt fire being sighted on August 26, leading to crime scenes being established at Maidenwell and in nearby bushland along the D’Aguilar Highway.
Human remains were found at the Maidenwell site with forensic examinations continuing.
“Every piece of information provided to police is crucial for this investigation,” Detective Acting Superintendent Craig Williams said in a statement.
“Police will continue to utilise every avenue available to us until we have answers.”
Investigators are still seeking information about the three “vehicles of interest” that have been seized.
Police have released vision of the vehicles, a black BMW SUV with Queensland 802NX4 plates, a black Ford utility with allegedly false 257LX8 plates and a silver Mitsubishi station wagon with a Queensland registration of 385KU2.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the vehicles in the Brisbane, Ipswich, Yarraman, Blackbutt and Sunshine Coast areas between August 21 and August 26 should contact police.
