The only retirement village in a hinterland tourism town has officially announced its plans for a major expansion.

Maleny Grove, which was acquired by a specialist operator of retirement communities last year, is planning to increase its number of residences from 28 to 94.

The retirement village at 9-11 Palm Street, Maleny, is set on 5.7 hectares. The expansion will include the addition of 66 architecturally designed villas plus a five-star clubhouse.

The plans were lodged with Sunshine Coast Council last year. It’s planned to be completed by 2027.

At the centre of the plans is The Lodge – a new community hub designed to support health, wellbeing and social interaction. Residents would have exclusive access to facilities including a heated indoor swimming pool, gym, cafe and hair and beauty salon.

Reside Communities CEO Glen Brown said the expansion would create a lifestyle that meets the needs of today’s retirees.

“We know how important it is for people to feel at home, connected and supported in a community that values independence, wellbeing and choice,” Mr Brown said.

“That’s exactly what Maleny Grove delivers and this next chapter takes that offering to a whole new level.”

Mr Brown said Maleny was a popular retirement destination with many local and interstate retirees moving to the area, so it was important the quality of living options for seniors aligned with demand.

“With this expansion we have a unique opportunity to elevate the quality of living options available and deliver a community that truly reflects the expectations of today’s retirees,” he said.

“As our first community on the Sunshine Coast, we’re committed to working closely with residents and the wider Maleny community to shape a new benchmark for premium retirement living in the region.”

Reside Communities also includes Brookland Robertson and Fairway Carindale in Brisbane, and Esperance Hope Island on the Gold Coast.
