A family from the Sunshine Coast is making waves on a TV singing contest, with three singers gracing the stage in pursuit of their musical dreams.
Chris Ah Gee, his wife Jazz Ella and her sister Jinja Blue have appeared on the latest series of Australian Idol.
The trio, from Buddina, auditioned separately for the show and secured spots in the top 30.
Chris, 31, and Jazz, 27, met about 10 years ago but only tied the knot late last year. They have performed extensively on cruise ships together.
Chris has worked in the music industry since he was 17, releasing original albums, touring and working as a guitar tech.
Jazz, who has previously battled vocal nodules, has a background in busking and has performed internationally.
“I’ve always said to Chris, ‘It’s more than just a dream, it’s a purpose’, and my motto is to shoot for the stars – that’s why I came here to Australian Idol,” she said on the show this week.
Jinja was raised in Kilkivan, west of Gympie, and has captured audience attention with her striking red hair.
The 21-year-old taught herself to sing and play piano, performing in community talent shows, before working as a cruise ship singer at 18.
In a twist of fate, this week Chris and Jazz were left on stage with only one place in the competition remaining. It created a difficult decision for judges Marcia Hines, Amy Shark and Ricki-Lee Coulter – filling in for the absent Kyle Sandilands – who opted to eliminate Jazz.
“Honestly, I’m glad it’s me (leaving) because Chris, he could win the whole competition. I believe in you,” she said.
Chris will next perform in Sunday night’s episode, with Jinja to perform on Monday night.
Australian Idol airs Sunday to Tuesday on Channel 7 and 7plus.
