Flooding has forced the closure – temporarily – of a Sunshine Coast bank branch.

The Commonwealth Bank’s branch at the Stockland shopping centre on Bowman Road, Caloundra, has been closed since December 30 following flash flooding.

A Commonwealth Bank spokesperson confirmed the Caloundra branch would reopen but was not able to pinpoint a date.

“Our first priority is the safety of our employees, customers and members of the public. As a result, the Caloundra branch is temporarily closed due to recent flooding in the area. ATMs remain available for customers,” the spokesperson said.

“The branch is currently under repair and we are working closely with Caloundra Shopping Centre to reopen as soon as possible.”

The spokesperson said customers who needed to do banking could instead attend the nearest Australia Post outlets in the Caloundra Village Shopping Centre in Ormuz Avenue or at Golden Beach.

The nearest Commonwealth Bank branches are at Kawana Shoppingworld and Horton Parade, Maroochydore.

The flood issues at Stockland Caloundra on December 30 disrupted activity at four businesses.

A centre management post on that date said the Commonwealth and NAB branches were closed, while Battery World continued to trade from the front of the store and Wash N Run laundromat remained open with limited after-hours access.

Business has since returned to normal at NAB, Battery World and Wash N Run.

Staff from the Commonwealth Bank at Caloundra have been working at other branches while the premises are closed.

The reopening of the Caloundra branch will please customers who have had fewer Commonwealth branches to choose from on the Sunshine Coast in recent years.

The Commonwealth closed its Buderim branch at the end of May last year, its Tewantin and Beerwah branches in 2022, and its Cooroy branch in 2019. The Noosa Junction branch also relocated to Noosa Civic last year.
