A new four-hectare park with one kilometre of pedestrian and cycle circuits, kick and throw lawns with soccer goals and static gym equipment will open this weekend.

The newest Linear Park, the second for AVID Property Group’s Harmony community in Palmview, promotes an active lifestyle, offering residents a range of innovative exercise and play equipment including elevated play towers, tunnel mounds, bird nest swings, spinners and a slide.

AVID general manager Queensland Anthony Demiris said the park opening was an important milestone for Harmony and a key part of the developer’s broader master plan to create a community which fostered connection and healthy living habits.

“We are so pleased to open the newest Linear Park in Harmony’s Serenity neighbourhood, stretching a total of 450m long and bringing four local parks to the community,” Mr Demiris said.

“The new park is equivalent in size to six and a half international football fields and is both the physical and figurative heart of the neighbourhood, with many residents expected to visit it every day to play, exercise and relax.”

The park stretches 250m through the community.

Queensland’s first linear park – a park, which, as the name suggests, is linear in style and often fulfils a connection function – opened in Harmony in 2018.

The unique configuration and design of Harmony ensures that all its residents live within 250 metres of a park and that each neighbourhood is connected to the development’s 60-kilometre network of pedestrian paths and cycleways.

“We know outdoor living is a catalyst for creating a healthy and active lifestyle to which the addition of this new park solidifies Harmony’s position as a healthy connected community,” Mr Demiris said.

“Whether you want to enjoy a picnic, take the dog for a walk or you just want to have a game of soccer with your friends, Harmony’s new Linear Park will be the go-to destination for local families.”

A Family Fit Festival has been planned for Saturday, July 13 to celebrate the opening of the park, featuring fitness classes including yoga, pilates and boot camp, kids’ laser tag, live music, food trucks, juice bikes, roving entertainers and face painting.

Fitness instructor Julie Dunford appreciates Harmony’s parkland.

Fitness coach and new Harmony resident Julie Dunford recently purchased a home in the residential community.

Ms Dunford said she knew of Harmony’s parks and events before moving to the area.

“I’ve now been running outdoor fitness groups through my business Full Body Fitness on the Sunshine Coast for eight years, and when one of my trainers moved to Harmony we got in touch with the AVID team to launch a program,” she said.

“The more I got to know the Harmony community and started speaking with locals through my work, the more the beautiful parks, new homes and active lifestyle appealed to us.

“The fitness community is one of our favourite parts of living in Harmony because of the social events and challenges we run where we connect with members outside of training and see friendships and relationships form.”
