Planning will start for a new pump track on the Sunshine Coast, after community members selected a location for it.

The purpose-built circuit for bike riding will be built at Forestwood Drive Park, which backs on to Wises Road and is near the well-known Lifepointe Baptist Church.

The park was selected following community consultation that generated almost 400 responses.

Sunshine Coast councillor Ted Hungerford thanked those who shared their thoughts and support for the project.

“This was a great opportunity for our community to help shape our local recreation areas,” he said.

“You told us Forestwood Drive Park was your preferred location for the proposed new facility.

“I appreciate all those who took the time to provide feedback and to let us know you want more locations like this for youth to meet and participate in healthy activities.”

Feedback showed 74 per cent of respondents supported a pump track in Buderim and 50 per cent chose Forestwood Drive Park as their preferred location.

It also showed 34 per cent preferred Cumberland Way Park for the location and 16 per cent preferred an alternative location.

Pump tracks are designed for riders to complete a circuit without pedalling.

Cr Hungerford outlined the next steps for the track.

“Now that we have significant support for a pump track, we will now review the ideas and feedback received during the engagement and start planning for the track in Forestwood Drive Park,” he said.
