A relatively new Sunshine Coast over-50s community has claimed a national award for innovative housing and active living.

B by Halcyon, by developer Stockland, received the Excellence in Seniors’ Living gong at the Urban Development Institute of Australia National Awards for Excellence gala dinner in Melbourne on Wednesday night.

The annual awards recognised the highest achievers across sectors of the development industry.

Stockland Halcyon regional project director Chris Carley said it was an honour for Stockland to take home the award for B by Halcyon, which launched in early 2020.

The community, located in the foothills of Buderim, is currently 95 per cent sold with 15 sites remaining.

“This UDIA award for B by Halcyon recognises Stockland’s approach to deliver innovative housing for those over 50, with a major focus on sustainable design and active community living,” he said.

“We like to say there is no better place to ‘B’ and our customers tell us that every day.”

Tim Francis, Narelle Colquhoun, Scott Ng, Chris Carley, Andrew Astorquia and Donna Osborne celebrate after claiming the award for B by Halcyon and Stockland.

Entrants in the Seniors’ Living category were judged on several factors including environmental consideration, design innovation, sales results, commitment to the broader community, as well as meeting the specific needs of retirement-age homeowners.

Winners of the awards were drawn from the winners of the state awards in 16 categories.

Stockland Halcyon communities have won 33 industry awards over the years.

“Earlier this year, B by Halcyon homeowners also celebrated the opening of the Sports Pavilion providing access to tennis and pickleball courts, a lounge with a fireplace, barbecue kitchen and pizza oven, as well as the new Central Park with walking tracks, a lakeside pontoon, an off-leash dog area and an open space amphitheatre,” Mr Carley said.
