A local business owner has launched her campaign for next year’s local council elections.

With the vote four months away, Jenny Broderick has announced her intention to run for Division 1 in the Sunshine Coast Council elections.

She said she was calling on the community to join her in the fight to preserve the region’s liveability and build community connections.

“When we join together to ‘vote one Jenny Broderick’, we are declaring that we want a councillor who is authentic, involved and engaged; one who is listening and is willing to fight for our locals and what’s best for our region; a councillor who shows up, works hard, supports and represents our community in the way we deserve,” she said at her campaign launch on Sunday night.

The mother of four has 20 years of experience as a business owner and is a former president of the Glasshouse Country Chamber of Commerce.

She is campaigning under slogans including ‘Time for Change’, ‘Listening to Locals’ and ‘#nextJen’, and has launched a ‘Tell me Tuesday’ campaign, encouraging residents to tell her what they love about where they live and what issues they would like to see resolved.

In a press release Ms Broderick said she aimed to tackle various issues including proactive, future planning for sustainable growth; better transportation connectivity; increased housing affordability; the rising cost of living; and greater support for businesses.

She is also calling for a greater focus on volunteers and community groups, while promising to actively listen to constituents, collaborate with all levels of government and prioritise the region’s best interests above party politics.

“Passionate, authentic representation requires someone who understands, actively listens, genuinely engages, and effectively communicates,” she said.

“I am here to serve. It’s time for change.”

The election will be held on March 16. Candidate nominations officially open on January 29 and close on February 13.

The Sunshine Coast Council area is made up of 10 divisions. Division 1 covers Beerwah, Landsborough, Caloundra South, Glass House Mountains, Little Mountain and surrounds. It is currently held by deputy mayor Rick Baberowski.
