A property with deep ties to the Sunshine Coast’s agricultural past is being offered for sale.
No. 179-185 Mooloolaba Road at Buderim was once owned by the pioneering Foote family, whose legacy includes the discovery of the Mons Mari banana variety.
It boasts a century-old residence surrounded by more than half a hectare of land.
A listing by Ray White describes the holding as “a significant piece of Buderim’s agricultural heritage”.
“The existing character residence adds further versatility, with the original home offering a glimpse into the property’s rich past while providing immediate functionality.”
The house has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and four vehicle spaces.

“Built in 1913 and later converted into three separate flats, the home presents a range of options while the expansive grounds provide the true highlight: a substantial parcel of land in one of the Sunshine Coast’s most desirable suburbs,” the listing states.
“Adding to its appeal, the property forms part of the historic Mons Mari holding: a significant piece of Buderim’s agricultural heritage.

The listing suggests the site could suit a variety of prospective buyers.
“Opportunities to secure a holding of this scale in Buderim are becoming increasingly rare.
“Whether you are looking to create a private family estate, explore future possibilities, land bank for the future, or secure a significant piece of Buderim real estate, properties of this size and calibre are rarely offered to the market.”
Sunshine Coast Council has documented, on its website, the Foote family’s place in Buderim’s early history, stating that Joseph Foote and his family arrived from Ipswich in 1907.

Joseph and his sons Hubert, Eric and Arnold grew citrus, coffee, pineapples, bananas and pecans on the property and were active in the local community. The council states the Mons Mari banana variety was created on the family’s banana farm.
The family’s legacy extends beyond agriculture.
In 1948, the Footes donated 6.8ha of bushland in memory of Eric Foote and other Buderim men killed in World War I. The land is now known as Foote Sanctuary.
Sunshine Coast News has approached Ray White for further comment. The listing provided limited information on vendors, stating that they are relocating.
