A rising tennis star and current number two in Australia for under-14 boys has qualified for Tennis Australia’s European Tour for the second consecutive year.
Sunshine Coast student Connor McEvoy has qualified for the Australian team and will travel with Tennis Australia to compete in the European Tour from July 4 to August 8.
Connor’s tennis career continues to soar to new heights and, together with his doubles partner, recently claimed victory at the national Clay Court Championships in Canberra for the under-14 boys division.
“I have worked on my doubles skills and tactics a lot over the past couple of years and I felt confident in the matches,” the Sunshine Coast Grammar School student said.
Before embarking on the tour, Connor attended a national camp in Darwin hosted by Tennis Australia, and competed in a International Junior Tennis Federation event, where he won his first international match.
“It was a great opportunity to play against such qualified and skilled players with different playing abilities,” he said.
In the lead-up to his international tour, Connor will represent Queensland and compete in the National Teams Championships on the Gold Coast, with the team eager to win its second consecutive title. The selection process is highly competitive, with only the top three under-15 boys nominated to represent the state.

Head coach Clint Fyfe said Connor was a fierce competitor and active member of the Sunshine Coast Grammar Tennis Academy.
He said he continually represents the club with passion and pride, with the team preparing for the Secondary State Championships in Rockhampton this month.
“The star athlete is a top performer on state tours, having represented Queensland for the past seven years,” he said.
“Connor’s continual selections are a reward for his results, performances and hard work displayed throughout the year.
“It’s great to see Connor’s hard work paying off. He is a great role model for our younger players, demonstrating what can happen if you really commit to improving your skills and physical abilities.”
With idols such as the current number one Carlos Alcaraz and fellow Aussie Alex de Minaur to look up to, as well as his passion and undeniable talent for the game, Connor’s
dreams of becoming a professional tennis player are fast becoming a reality.
The European Tour is a great experience for Australian juniors to compete on a clay surface against some of Europe’s best players. The team will compete in two tournaments in Austria and Germany.
“The juniors in Europe are really fierce competitors, they fight for every point so there will be some tough battles,” Connor said.
“It is a privilege to represent Australia and I am very grateful for the opportunity.”
