About 400 people have converged on a glamorous gala dinner, to celebrate an iconic surf lifesaving club’s centenary.
Life members, patrolling surf lifesavers, local dignitaries and legends of surf lifesaving enjoyed a night of delicious food, drinks, dancing and laughs, to mark the rich history of the Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club.

Among the guests were Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson, Sunshine Coast Council CEO Emma Thomas, MP Fiona Simpson, Councillor Joe Natoli and local surf lifesaving identities Steve Miller, Hayden Kenny, Ralph Devlin and Adell Parkyn, the wife of Coast legend Arthur Parkyn (of Parkyn Parade), and club sponsors.
The evening was the culmination of a year of celebrations.
Previous events included the launching of a ‘100 Years’ centenary book, a re-enactment day of beach patrols and surf sports from 1923 and the unveiling of a pictorial representation of lifesaving at Mooloolaba over the decades, showcased in the foyer of The Surf Club.
The club now boasts more than 1400 members, with lifesavers completing 14,000 volunteer patrol hours and performing more than 1800 preventative actions and rescues per season.
Meanwhile, Mooloolaba Nippers is one of the largest nippers programs on the Sunshine Coast, with more than 450 children participating per season and Starfish Nippers for children with disabilities.
The Surf Club, Mooloolaba Supporters Club, has more 260,000 visitors per year and 50,000 plus members.
