A mother and her children who have escaped domestic violence have received a donated car to help them rebuild their lives and regain independence.

They were handed the vehicle by a local resident through charity Aus Living Support at its Nambour Op Shop in late October.

The donor, Bradley Schafer, said he was eager to help.

“I wanted to offer practical support to our community,” he said.

“Access to a car can mean greater independence and make it easier to access opportunities and stay connected with support.”

Aus Living Support CEO Ian Harrison said the act of kindness demonstrated the impact that such support could have on families in crisis.

“When a mother and her children escape domestic violence, they often face the overwhelming challenge of starting their lives again,” he said.

“Things many of us take for granted can suddenly become enormous obstacles.

“It’s locals helping locals, standing beside families when they need it most and showing them that their community genuinely cares.”

Aus Living Support, established in 2018, is a Sunshine Coast grassroots charity committed to helping local families experiencing crisis, domestic violence, homelessness and financial hardship.

Through its community-funded assistance programs and op shops in Maroochydore and Nambour, the charity provides practical, compassionate support to people when they need it most.
