Families have a new reason to visit a popular community park, with a long-awaited playground upgrade now complete.

The refreshed play space on King Street in Cooran includes new playground equipment, a retaining wall and a bridge connection to improve access.

As part of the project, the old play rotunda and ageing retaining wall were removed to make way for the improvements, while the existing swings and smaller play unit have been retained and incorporated into the renewed playground.

Noosa Mayor Frank Wilkie said the upgrade was about Noosa Council investing in projects that support local communities.

“Pioneer Park is a much-loved community space and it’s fantastic to see local families already enjoying the upgraded playground,” he said.

“The play equipment is terrific for kids to get active, use their imagination and have fun, while the new retaining wall and bridge connection make the space safer and easier to access.”

In addition to the playground upgrade, council has worked alongside the Cooran community and local sporting groups to deliver a new basketball hoop, repairs to the existing netball court and new line markings for two handball courts and two pickleball courts.

The works were delivered through collaboration between council, the Cooran Action Collective, Cooroora Netball Association, Cooran Cutters Rugby League Club and local contractor Dream Courts.

Cooran Action Collective spokesperson Elyse Patten said, “We love the refreshed playground, and the new basketball hoop and line markings have just quadrupled the variety of leisure sports which can be enjoyed in Cooran village.

“We are excitedly getting a pickleball league together. Everyone is thrilled.”

The playground upgrade was designed to blend in with the surrounding environment and preserve the relaxed country character that makes Pioneer Park such a popular local destination.

Council thanked the community for its patience throughout the works and said the upgraded playground was now ready for families to enjoy.
