A Japanese clothing giant has announced the opening date for its highly anticipated first Sunshine Coast store.

Uniqlo is set to welcome shoppers to its Sunshine Plaza outlet on October 15, commencing at 9.50am with a Japanese drumming performance and traditional ribbon cutting before the doors open at 10am.

Exclusive opening offers, giveaways and special in-store activations will be available to customers that day.

There will also be special UT T-shirt designs featuring a Sunshine Coast artist available exclusively at the new store.

The store’s arrival was first announced in June, when Uniqlo confirmed it had secured space at the Maroochydore shopping precinct but had not yet announced an opening date.

Local enthusiasm surrounding the announcement aligns with a broader surge in consumer interest across the region. According to Google Trends data, search interest for Uniqlo in Queensland has steadily climbed, recording a 20 per cent increase over the past year and doubling with a 100 cent rise over the past five years. Search activity reached an all-time peak in mid-2026 following the retailer’s initial announcement in June, reflecting strong regional demand ahead of the brand’s first Sunshine Coast store launch.

The 777sqm store will stock the LifeWear range, which includes the retailer’s everyday clothing and functional apparel for men, women, children and babies.

Uniqlo Australia COO Satoshi Naito said the Sunshine Plaza store represented an important step for the retailer.

“This store represents the evolution of Uniqlo in Australia, offering not only our full range of LifeWear essentials, but also a dynamic and interactive shopping experience that reflects our Japanese roots and global vision,” Mr Naito said.

“Thanks to the great support of our Australian customers, the opening of this new Queensland store marks a great milestone for Uniqlo.”
