Sunshine Coast Council could sell a prime site that is being used as a work compound for a major foreshore project.

A council representative told Sunshine Coast News that No. 32-24 Brisbane Road, which is one block from Mooloolaba Beach, could be put on the market once it has served its purpose.

The former post office site was initially acquired by the council and demolished in 2021 as part of the Brisbane Road Upgrade project.

The land was required to widen Brisbane Road to four lanes and accommodate the major intersection upgrade at Brisbane Road, Venning Street and Hancock Street.

The land has been used as a temporary construction compound to facilitate construction of the Brisbane Road Upgrade, and now the Mooloolaba Foreshore Revitalisation.

The council representative said the future of the property was uncertain but said it could be put on the market.

“Once construction is completed, council will assess the future usage or sale of the site.”

“As per the local government regulation, if a decision is made to sell the property it will be taken to auction or tender.”

The site would likely attract significant interest form prospective buyers, especially developers.

Another large property resumed by the council for the Brisbane Road Upgrade was recently sold for $4.2 million after being deemed surplus to requirements.

No.21 Bindaree Crescent, a 1565 vacant area, went to a local developer/investor.

No. 32-24 Brisbane Road is being used as one of the main hubs by contractors working on the foreshore revitalisation.

Stage 2 of the four-stage project includes the construction of a terraced seawall, amenities and pathways near the Mooloolaba Surf Club. It’s expected to be completed by March.

Future stages of the revitalisation are set to follow but a time frame has not been determined and is subject to funding.
