A Sunshine Coast grocery store’s bakery department has claimed a top honour at a major retail event.

The team at White’s IGA Forest Glen was recognised as the IGA National Medium Bakery Department of the Year at the IGA National Awards of Excellence, held on the Gold Coast.

Metcash, which hosted the event, stated that the bakery section is the first customer touchpoint upon entry to the store, “setting the tone for a great shopping experience”.

“It features all bakery essentials, plus in-store baked specialties such as cherry pies, cookies and bread rolls, which makes this an award-winning department.”

“The range caters to high-volume school drop-off trade with cakes, muffins and bread, while also showcasing quality locally produced items.

“It truly delivers something for every shopper.”

Owner Roz White celebrated the award and praised staff members.

“This award reflects the care, pride and passion our team pours into serving the Forest Glen community every single day,” she said.

“We’re proud to provide our local community with an exceptional bakery offering and to win up against some incredible IGA stores across Australia, is a true testament to the hard work of our team.

“Thanks to our local shoppers for their support too, we love seeing you enjoy our bakery as much as we do.”

The 27th edition of the awards were hosted by Claudia Karvan and Rodger Corser, who they presented 24 awards to IGA and Foodland IGA independent retailers.

White’s IGA Forest Glen claimed awards last year after it opened in 2022.
