A long-serving Red Rooster has quietly closed its doors, with its former site now up for sale for the first time in more than two decades.
The drive-thru location, located on a prominent Noosaville corner at 2 Mary Street, is being marketed by Tracey Ryan of RWC Noosa & Sunshine Coast.
The store was previously disrupted in 2019 when franchise operator Sunstate Foods Pty Ltd went into voluntary administration, closing several southeast Queensland Red Rooster locations including Noosa Civic and Mary Street.
It later reopened under a new franchise arrangement before its most recent closure.
The empty restaurant came as a shock to some community members, with Joe McKay posting in the Noosa Community Board, “No ‘closing soon’ signs, no farewell post, no last chance for a Rooster Roll or a cheeky pineapple fritter… it just quietly disappeared”.
While Ms Ryan could not comment on why the current owners were selling, she said the site had already received strong interest from buyers.
“As much as we all loved Red Rooster, it is such a wonderful location and a great opportunity for a new business to bring some energy and life to the site,” she said.
“There is lots of interest from buyers both local, national, and a couple of international buyers who know the site.”

The 1,010sqm corner property features a versatile two-story building structure, comprising a 224sqm ground floor with an integrated 84sqm single lane drive-thru, and a 222sqm first floor.
The property is already equipped with essential infrastructure for high-volume commercial operations, including a grease trap, three-phase power, and an exhaust flue, and 17 on-site car parks.

“Having been home to Red Rooster for over 20 years, 2 Mary street is an absolute landmark in the local area,” Ms Ryan said.
“The property is currently vacant and fully equipped for a commercial kitchen, which presents an incredible blank canvas.
“While it’s perfectly primed for another drive-thru restaurant, the flexible layout opens the door for a range of alternative uses including premium hospitality, retail, medical, or service-based businesses.”

Positioned centrally within Noosaville’s fast food and retail hub, the site sits alongside major national brands like McDonald’s, 7-Eleven, and KFC.
It’s also a short stroll from the Gympie Terrace riverfront, the Homemaker Centre, and major local retailers like Woolworths and Dan Murphy’s.
The property is offered for sale via an Expressions of Interest (EOI) campaign closing at 5pm on Friday, July 31.
