A major milestone has been reached for a long-running community project.

At the Maleny Golf Club in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, seven large modules have been lifted into place to form the club’s new $1.7 million clubhouse overlooking the 18th green.

The crane operation, carried out late last month, saw a 150-tonne crane position the prefabricated sections onto prepared footings at the club’s home on the Maleny Community Precinct at North Maleny.

Video from the site captured the final modules being carefully maneuvered into position as the long-awaited facility began taking shape.

Club president Doug Evans said the lift marked a significant step forward for the growing club, which has operated from two shipping containers since opening its first nine holes in 2015.

“This is a significant undertaking and our team has done a great job completing this crucial stage of works efficiently and with minimal disruption to members, patrons and day-to-day golf operations,” Mr Evans said.

The clubhouse is expected to be operational within months and will complement the club’s award-winning 18-hole course.

Originally designed as a 422sqm building, the project was expanded to 483sqm after member donations funded the addition of a seventh module.

Mr Evans said the extra investment would help meet the club’s future needs.

“The extra $200,000 being invested will future-proof the clubhouse for at least the next 10 to 15 years and avoid inevitable disruption to extend the building later at far greater cost,” he said.

The modular structure was built off-site by Sunshine Coast company Saltair Modular before being transported to the course for rapid assembly.

Golf operations manager Mike Finely said the project had generated excitement among members and the wider community.

“For many members who have seen the club grow over the years, seeing the building finally come together has been a proud moment,” he said.

The new venue will provide expanded facilities for golfers while also creating an additional bookable meeting space for community groups.

The clubhouse project has been more than two decades in the making, with the golf club established 26 years ago before gradually evolving into one of Queensland’s recognised regional golf destinations.

The club now has about 550 members and has received Queensland Golf Industry Awards along with a National Turf Industry Award.

Mr Evans said the development represented the next stage in the club’s long-term vision.

“This is a major milestone for the Maleny Golf Club to finally have a permanent headquarters,” he said.

Once complete, the temporary shipping container facilities that have served as the clubhouse for more than a decade will be removed.
