A man has been charged after an alleged late-night assault and robbery at a beachside suburb.

Police have charged a 44-year-old man in relation to an incident at Warana last week.

It is alleged that, on May 15 at about 11.04 pm, the man assaulted a taxi driver and damaged the vehicle at Melody Court at Warana.

It is further alleged the man attempted to flee the scene with the driver’s property but was taken into police custody following a struggle nearby.

The man, from Warana, has been charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, armed robbery, wilful damage, and serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm.

He is expected to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on June 15.
