Construction has started on a new state-of-the-art primary school in one of the Sunshine Coast’s fastest growing areas.
Work has begun on the Caloundra South facility, which will have enrolment capacity for 1140 students from Prep to Year 6 and is set to open in Term 1, 2028.
The $98 million project at Banya will include a modern campus, a kindergarten, science and technology centre, a multi-purpose hall, a resource centre and 48 learning spaces.
The school, in the Caloundra South Priority Development Area, will feature sports and play facilities and staff and visitor car parking.
The school’s onsite Early Years Place will also provide health, wellbeing and family support services for young children and their families.
Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the start of construction was an exciting development for the community.
“The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for Queensland’s education sector and that includes critical education infrastructure in one of the state’s fastest growing regions,” he said.
“Stages 1 and 2 of construction will be delivered concurrently to improve construction efficiency and have the new school ready for students in 2028.
“This is part of our plan to deliver 15 new schools in our record $21.9 billion Education Budget and six special schools to provide choice to parents and help all students reach their potential.
“The Crisafulli Government will continue to deliver our red tape reduction plan for teachers, the $100 back to school boost for every primary school student and anti-bullying strategies so all teachers and students can work and learn in safe environments.

Member for Caloundra Kendall Hatcher said the next generation of young Queenslanders would benefit from the school, located on the corner of Western Drive and Tyndal Circuit.
“This project has received overwhelming support, and the Crisafulli Government is proud to deliver it,” she said.
“All Queenslanders deserve access to a world class education no matter where they live and this modern new primary school will build a brighter future for the Caloundra community.”
