A Sunshine Coast-based aeromedical crew has helped a man from a cruise ship, after he suffered injuries from a fall.

The LifeFlight rescue crew winched the man from the cruise ship, 20 nautical miles off the Fraser Coast, on Wednesday night.

The helicopter was tasked to the scene by Retrieval Services Queensland at 9.07pm.

The critical care Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic and LifeFlight rescue crew officer were winched down to the vessel.

The QAS flight paramedic assessed and treated the patient for head injuries, and he was then winched into the helicopter.

The man, in his 70s, was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for further treatment.
