Hate-filled stickers targeting transgender people have been discovered across a Sunshine Coast suburb, including in a school zone, prompting concern from a local resident.
Caloundra West resident Dorado raised the alarm after spotting stickers reading “Ban the trans” at the intersection of Rawson and Gairdner streets, with similar stickers now reportedly appearing on multiple signs and surfaces throughout the suburb.
Dorado said the placement of the stickers was designed to intimidate and dehumanise transgender people, warning that normalising such slogans could encourage further harassment and violence.
“For me, it’s just a basic human right,” they said.
“People do not lose their human rights because they are trans, queer, women…”
A Sunshine Coast Council spokesperson said the matter had not been reported to council.
“We take damage to community property very seriously,” they said.
“Council has a dedicated Rapid Response Team that attends to reports of offensive graffiti and vandalism.
“If you witness anti-social behaviour, we encourage our community to report to the police by calling 000 so they can respond accordingly.”

Dorado also raised concerns about the impact on young people in the area.
“This is a school zone. How do you think trans kids or trans kids’ families feel when they see this in front of their school or in their street?” they said.
“The response has to be clear from the authorities: everyone deserves respect as is in the law, no matter their gender, skin colour, or sexual orientation, so if some people are spreading hate speech against others, this has to be investigated and the stickers removed.”
