Flights linking the Sunshine Coast to two of Asia’s most desirable tourism and business hubs are underway.

The first Jetstar plane from Sunshine Coast Airport to Singapore via Bali took off today. The service will operate three times per week.

Airport CEO Chris Mills said more than 200 passengers boarded the flight.

“Today is a proud moment for our airport and our community,” he said.

“Direct services to Bali and through to Singapore strengthens our region’s accessibility and helps unlock new opportunities for tourism, trade and investment.

“The new service represents significant planning and investment in our airport to make sure it continues to grow alongside our region.

“We’re delighted to partner with Jetstar to deliver this service and look forward to welcoming more visitors to experience everything our region has to offer.”

Jetstar’s head of network fleet strategy and planning Ted Knight said the airline is leading the way in opening new international connections for the Sunshine Coast.

“Asia is closer than ever for Sunshine Coast residents and visitors with today’s inaugural service from Maroochydore to Bali and Singapore,” he said.

“In the time it would usually take to drive to Brisbane, find parking and get to the boarding gate, Sunshine Coast residents will be preparing to land in Bali.

“We’ll be offering more than 70,000 low-cost seats a year on this route so our customers can afford to take off more for less to Bali or continue to Singapore and beyond.

“Importantly, our services also provide a new gateway for inbound travellers to the Sunshine Coast and the surrounding region which will support local hospitality and tourism operators.”

Minister for Environment and Tourism, Andrew Powell MP said the new service would help bring more visitors to the region and support local jobs.

“Queensland is the home of the holiday, and direct flights from Bali and Singapore to the Sunshine Coast will make it easier for more visitors to discover this incredible part of our state.

“We are delighted to welcome visitors to the beautiful Sunshine Coast and to Queensland.”

Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the new service would help showcase the best of what the Sunshine Coast has to offer to an international audience.

“This is the time for the Sunshine Coast to shine in the international spotlight.”

“These new flights make it easier than ever for visitors to discover everything our region has to offer, from our beautiful beaches and natural landscapes to our thriving local businesses.”

Jetstar currently operates direct services from Sunshine Coast Airport to Auckland, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Cairns, making it the airport’s largest carrier.

To mark the occasion, Jetstar is offering one-way sale fares from Sunshine Coast to Bali from $209 and from Sunshine Coast to Singapore from $249 at jetstar.com.
