A growing sports group is set to get a new clubhouse that could be built by early next year.
The state government has committed funding to help the Currimundi United Football Club build a new facility at Frank McIvor Park, Gothic Parade.
Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie recently revealed the news via social media.
“You would recognise the old clubhouse. The Crisafulli Government is investing $1 million into a brand-new community clubhouse … and the great news is this clubhouse is going to start this year,” he said.
Club president Emma Hudson said new facilities were needed at the club, which was established in 1980.
“While our clubhouse facilities have changed little since then, our membership has grown significantly,” she said.
“We now have nearly 600 members, making us the largest SCCSA (Sunshine Coast Churches Soccer Association) football club on the Sunshine Coast. We pride ourselves on being a grassroots volunteer community hub that is more than just a football club.
“We greatly welcome the investment. We are eager to provide a larger, more functional space, as we currently struggle to service our members and their families.
“Our existing clubhouse is very limited, consisting only of a small canteen, a bathroom and a maintenance shed.

“Because there is insufficient storage for equipment, uniforms and merchandise, volunteers often have to store items at their personal residences. It also impacts the service we can offer our members.
“We are still in the early stages of planning and costings, so we are unsure what will happen to the current clubhouse once it is removed, though we hope to salvage materials for sustainability.
“Ideally, the new build will reflect our community, honor our connection to Country and the traditional owners of the land, and provide the capacity we need to continue growing.
“Our members and the community are excited about this modernisation.
“We envisage a coastal club that complements our location alongside Currimundi Lake and contains space for the club to continue to grow and remain a positive influence on our community.”
The clubhouse is in the pre-construction phase, with designs expected in coming months.
“While we are still finalising the total cost, we anticipate that achieving our goals will require more than the $1 million currently promised,” Ms Hudson said.
“Construction is slated to begin in mid-June, with completion expected prior to the start of the 2027 season.”
Project management firm Coha Group is helping the club run the project.
Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said the funding was via an initiative announced last year.
“The Crisafulli Government is investing in local sporting clubs as part of the Games legacy to benefit all of Queensland,” he said.
“We are proud to be backing the Currimundi football community with $1 million for an upgraded clubhouse as part of the Games On! infrastructure program.”
