A crime scene has been declared in Woombye following a police involved shooting on Wednesday afternoon.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said officers were called to the Sunshine Motorway following a single-vehicle crash near the Sippy Downs exit, when the vehicle fled the scene.

Police tracked the car to Nambour Connection Road when the driver, a 31-year-old male, got out of the vehicle and approached officers while armed with a gun, and was subsequently shot by police.

Officers provided first aid at the scene, before the man was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with shoulder injuries.

The matter will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Traffic has been impacted, and as of 3.32pm, the Department of Transport and Main Roads states on its website that all lanes are blocked on Nambour Connection Road between the Bruce Highway and Blackall Street at Woombye.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while investigations continue.
