A ute has ploughed into a school building in an early-morning crash at Dicky Beach, causing significant damage.
A white Nissan Navara utility crashed through a fence and into Currimundi Special School at about 2.45am on Monday.
No staff were present at the school when the incident occurred, a Department of Education spokesperson said.
“The school community was informed of the incident and classes have continued as normal,” they said.
“A structural engineer has inspected the building and it remains fenced off while repairs are undertaken.”
Police were called to Buderim Street following reports of the crash.
The male driver returned a positive roadside breath test and was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for observation. He was not injured in the crash.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said no charges have been laid, and no one else was physically hurt.
Police are investigating the crash and are urging anyone with further information or vision to contact them.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed paramedics did not attend the scene.
