A Sunshine Coast lifeguard has been treated in hospital following a dog bite while on duty at a Maroochydore beach on January 26.
“One of the lifeguards at Maroochydore river mouth was bitten while walking back up the beach after doing a rescue on Australia Day,” a Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesperson told SCN.
“He attended hospital and had the wound treated and is doing well. He will be off work for a few days to recover.
“All incidents, including drownings, rescues, injuries and accidents are logged and, where appropriate, reported to the relevant authority.”
The spokesperson added the incident “did not occur on an off-leash dog beach”.

Sunshine Coast Council has confirmed it is aware of the incident and is investigating further.
“Council acknowledges a dog attack incident that occurred on 26 January 2026 at Maroochydore,” a council spokesperson told SCN.
“We cannot provide further comment while the matter is under investigation. Council takes dog attacks very seriously and will take the appropriate action following the investigation.”
