Members of a community group will be able to utilise their current headquarters on state government land for some time yet after a long-term lease was secured.
The Nambour Men’s Shed has a new multi-year arrangement at 8 Colless Lane, giving members certainty and space to continue their vital work supporting men’s health, connection and community projects.
The site, owned by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, will serve as a more permanent base for the group under a new lease until 2030, with an additional option until 2035, ensuring stability for years to come.
Members had feared for the group’s future in 2023 after they were given notice to vacate the building, which had a damaged roof and was earmarked to make way for a rail corridor upgrade. Efforts to find a new home were unsuccessful, and the organisation was advised to leave. But they were then given a well-received reprieve and were told they could stay there for five more years.
Now, the group has secured more time there.
Nambour Men’s Shed President Bob Ward thanked Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt for helping to arrange it.
“Marty took our proposal directly to Transport and Main Roads Minister Brent Mickelberg to advocate for a long-term solution,” he said.
“This new lease removes all uncertainty about our future and allows us to focus on what matters most – supporting our members’ mental health, reducing social isolation, and continuing our community projects.”

Operating since 2011, the Nambour Men’s Shed now has about 80 members and continues to grow.
The group is also fundraising to purchase a vehicle to help with the collection and delivery of community projects and donations.
Open five days a week, the Shed dedicates each Thursday to special-needs members and their carers.
“Having a permanent home at Colless Lane means we can plan ahead, expand our activities and keep welcoming new members,” Mr Ward said.
“We’re grateful for the support from TMR and Marty in helping make this possible.”
Mr Hunt said the new lease was a big win for the community.
“Men’s Sheds are about much more than tools and timber: they’re about mateship, mental health and giving back,” he said.
“It’s fantastic to see the Nambour Men’s Shed secure a stable home where members can keep doing what they do best, supporting each other and strengthening our community.”
The Nambour Men’s Shed provides a space for men of all ages to connect, share skills and contribute to projects that benefit the wider community.
