Tributes are pouring in following the death of former Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club president Ross Fisher, who passed away on November 4 aged 77.
Born on April 11, 1948, Mr Fisher joined the club in 1989 after moving his family from New Zealand in search of the Sunshine Coast’s “good life”.
He served as a patrol captain before eventually joining the committee and rising to president.
“Ross was a good friend and a champion advocate for surf lifesaving and the Noosa club,” Wide Bay MP Llew O’Brien said in a statement.
“His dedication and passion shone through in everything he did. From the time I was first elected in 2016, through to the many sponsor breakfasts and events we attended, it was always a pleasure to work with him.
“Ross will be sorely missed. I extend my condolences to his wife Suzette and their family.”
A spokesperson for Noosa Heads SLSC echoed the sentiments of the community.
“His legacy lives on every time we patrol, train, rescue, or simply enjoy time on the sand,” they said.
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go to his family, friends, and all his fellow club members who valued him as a leader and friend.”
In February, Mr Fisher announced he would step down as club president, officially citing personal reasons. His resignation followed investigations commissioned by Surf Life Saving Queensland into allegations regarding the club’s internal culture and governance.
A funeral service will be held at Gregson and Weight Funerals in Noosaville today at 10.30am.
