Two Sunshine Coast retail hubs have been celebrated for their management and community initiatives at the Queensland Retail Awards.

The Maroochydore Homemaker Centre, run by CBRE, and Kawana Shoppingworld, run by Mirvac Real Estate, were recognised for ‘Excellence in Centre Management’ at an event at Howard Smith Wharves in Brisbane on Saturday.

The former was adjudged the winner among retail centres sized 12,000sqm to 35,000sqm and the latter among those sized 35,000sqm to 50,000sqm.

The awards were conducted by the Queensland Division of the Property Council of Australia.

Queensland Property Council executive director Jess Caire said the two Sunshine Coast centres were standouts in competitive fields and revealed why they won.

“The Maroochydore Homemaker Centre has been a mainstay at multiple iterations of the Property Council’s annual retail awards,” she said.

“This year the CBRE team has delivered a trifecta of creative marketing, a range immersive experiences, and bespoke tenant engagement.

“In addition, they have also supported local charities like Mix FM’s ‘Give Me 5’ appeal and implemented sustainability initiatives such as recycled play spaces, urban beekeeping, and a 6 Star NABERS rating.

“Mirvac Real Estate’s Kawana Shoppingworld stood out for its attention to detail,” she said.

Kawana Shoppingworld was acknowledged with a Queensland retail award.

“Over the last financial year Kawana Shoppingworld’s school holiday activations drew over 2000 children into the centre.

“Their sustainability efforts are equally impressive: diverting over 112,000kg of waste, preventing more than 107,000 containers from going into landfill while also raising over $10,000 for charity through a cost-neutral partnership.

“Overall, the Sunshine Coast has proven its retail facilities can compete with the best of those in Queensland and I look forward to seeing how the region performs next year.”
