Sunshine Coast residents can now ‘buy, trade and sell’ their favourite local landmarks in a new version of Monopoly.

Players can land on Mount Coolum and Mooloolaba Beach instead of the traditional Mayfair and Park Lane, with Monopoly: Sunshine Coast Edition hitting shelves today.

An official launch, featuring Mr Monopoly himself, is being held at Amaze World this morning.

Mayor Rosanna Natoli said it was a milestone for the region.

“Monopoly is a much-loved game and to see our region’s iconic spaces and places featured is a thrill,” she said.

“Who hasn’t dreamed of owning the Big Pineapple or the Ginger Factory? This is such a fun twist on a family favourite.”

Monopoly: Sunshine Coast Edition includes a variety of locations.

The Sunshine Coast edition has been a year in the making, with Winning Moves – which produces regional versions under licence from Hasbro – consulting councils, businesses and locals to capture the Coast’s identity.

Dale Hackett from Winning Moves said the region had been on its radar for some time.

“We’ve had requests for a Sunshine Coast edition for years but wanted to make sure we got it right,” he said.

“It’s so much more than stunning beaches and the iconic Big Pineapple – there are hidden gems and special pockets we wanted to showcase.”

The game is now available at major retailers across the region.
