A new 12-storey hotel in the heart of the Sunshine Coast has officially reached its highest point, with the development on track to open early next year.
Developed and designed by KPAT Hotels, the Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel will include 180 rooms, a rooftop pool and bar, multiple dining options and an events venue that can host up to 250 people.
“We are proud to celebrate this landmark moment as the hotel reaches its full height,” KPAT Hotels managing director Kenneth Wagner said.
“The Sunshine Coast has been missing a true upscale, full-service hotel product, and Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel will fill that gap by combining contemporary design, premium amenities and the scale of service today’s travellers are looking for.”
The development will be the Sunshine Coast’s first new full-service hotel in more than 30 years, and Australia’s first full-scale Avani hotel.
“This project is about setting a new benchmark for accommodation on the Sunshine Coast. Avani Mooloolaba will create a place where both locals and visitors can stay, connect, relax and celebrate,” Mr Wagner said.
“When we couldn’t manage to command any mid-tier builders on a fair and reasonable commercial deal, we set out to self-deliver the works with our own team that we have put together for this project. We now have in-house capability to develop, construct, own and operate premium hotel product.
“We see that this now puts us in a great position pre-Olympics to continue to deliver quality and well-utilised assets in the SEQ market, leading into 2032.”
The first pile was driven on the hotel in 2023 but construction ramped up in June last year.
The Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel remains on track to open in the first quarter of next year.
KPAT Hotels is an Australian hotel and hospitality developer, owner and operator that was founded by Mr Wagner, who is part of the Wagner family that built Wellcamp Airport.
It opened its first hotel in 2020 and has a total of 500 rooms in hotels in Toowoomba and Townsville.
Avani Hotels and Resorts is an upscale brand from Minor Hotels, which has more than 560 hotels and resorts across six continents.
