A man has been airlifted to hospital after his boat ran aground near Double Island Point this morning.

The Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight helicopter was tasked at 7.25am by Retrieval Services Queensland and landed on the beach to drop off a rescue crew officer and Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic.

The man in his 70s was extricated from the boat and transported to the helicopter, which landed at a clearing near Double Island Point Lighthouse.

He was treated for head and hip injuries.

He was flown in a stable condition to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for further treatment.
