Key roads around the Sunshine Coast will be impacted by an increasingly popular running event this weekend.
Main thoroughfares – including a stretch of the Sunshine Motorway and streets in Alexandra Headland, Maroochydore and Mooloolaba – will have delays during the Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival on Sunday.
The southbound section of motorway between Maroochydore Road and David Low Way will be inaccessible to motorists from 5.30am to 10.30am, when more than 15,000 runners will be on course.
Duporth Avenue, Alexandra Parade, a portion of Brisbane Road, Walan Street, Sixth Avenue, Bradman Avenue, Denna Street, part of David Low Way at Pacific Paradise and Ocean Drive will also be closed.
Some roads around Twin Waters and Mooloolaba are expected to have delays.
Several car parks will also be closed.
Sunshine Coast mayor Rosanna Natoli said the festival was important to the region and she appreciated locals’ patience.
“We acknowledge that many residents are impacted by road closures and traffic and we really thank them for the role they play in the success of this event,” she said.
There are parking options at PARKnGO facilities at Mooloolaba and Maroochydore.

Pre-booked Park N Ride shuttle buses between Maroochydore Football Club and the event site were still available on Tuesday but trips between Maroochydore Cricket Club and the event site were sold out.
The 2025 EVA Air Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland, and the Sunshine Coast Council through the Major Events Sponsorship Program.
