Preliminary works are about to start on a major upgrade to one of the Sunshine Coast’s busiest intersections.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads announced that site investigations will soon be underway to inform early planning and design for an improved junction at Caloundra Road, Nicklin Way and Pelican Waters Boulevard.

The project is being delivered as part of the state government’s congestion-busting plan for Caloundra.

Early works will include ground surveying, stormwater inspections and geotechnical and pavement investigations.

Member for Caloundra Kendall Morton said the upgrade would be crucial for transport in the region.

She said the state government was “committed to busting traffic congestion along Caloundra Road”.

“It’s the number one issue for our entire community,” she said.

Construction activities will be carried out during day and night, including during some weekends, to minimise disruptions and complete the works as efficiently as possible.
