A Sunshine Coast children’s support charity has launched a transitional housing project that will help families fleeing domestic violence.
SunnyKids announced the estimated $5 million initiative, which is set to provide safe and supported accommodation.
Land has been secured and the first three townhouses are funded.
The first stage – which includes three three-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouses – is being made possible through Peter Stannard and Ann Smales from Firefly Education.
Mr Stannard said the scheme would have a long-term impact in the community.
“We believe every family deserves the opportunity to live in a safe and stable home,” he said.

“Supporting this project through SunnyKids is our way of giving families a second chance: one that empowers them to move forward with dignity and hope.”
SunnyKids CEO Kathleen Hope said the need for transitional housing in the region had never been more urgent.
“We see the heartbreaking impact of the housing crisis every day,” she said.
“These homes will provide more than just a roof over a family’s head, they will offer the support, stability and space to heal and move toward independence.
“We are deeply grateful to Firefly Education for being the catalyst to make this vision a reality.”

SunnyKids has called on the broader community and government to help raise the remaining $2.5 million needed to complete the next three homes, which will expand the project to house 132 people and provide 5475 bed nights each year.
