The centre of a bustling beach town is set to be revitalised with better links between key areas.

The Coolum Connections project is expected to strengthen the character and heart of the town.

Sunshine Coast councillor Maria Suarez said it would improve access to, and use of, important routes between the foreshore and main street, through to Jack Morgan Park.

“We’re looking to really connect the spaces and places our community loves and this will include making it easier to find and access the Coolum Library and Civic Centre, located next to the park,” she said.

“The project will build on significant planning and community engagement undertaken over the past 15 years.

“This previous planning resulted in major streetscape improvements, park upgrades and other public realm improvements.”

Park Street has been identified as a key priority for improvement and council will deliver refreshed pavement, new landscaped areas with native and coastal planting, seating nooks, improved street trees with irrigation and renewed street lighting with overhead festoon lights.

“As part of the improvements, the new concrete pavement will be etched with a distinctive Coolum pattern and we are seeking your input on the artwork style,” Cr Suarez said.

“We’ll also be adding shade trees in Jack Morgan Park, and new wayfinding and directional signage.”

Locals can get involved.

“We’re inviting our community to review and provide feedback on the Draft Coolum Connections Ideas Plan and the Park Street Streetscape Refresh before May 12,” Cr Suarez said.

“We look forward to your feedback on this exciting project to enhance Coolum’s heart and character.”

Construction is proposed for July, with a project budget of $400,000 as part of council’s Capital Works Program and Minor Capital Works Program.

Community members can visit the website to find out more information and to have a say.

Feedback received will help council finalise the Draft Coolum Connections Ideas Plan and the Park Street Streetscape Refresh design, ready for construction.
