A former carpenter has transformed a vintage campervan into a place where he can share his love of crafting cocktails.

Inspired by the dark, moody allure of speakeasy cocktail bars, Daniel Reynolds is taking the region by “dark and stormy”.

He has created 1973 Cocktail Bar, a mobile drink van blending vintage charm with modern mixology.

Originally from Wolverhampton, England, Mr Reynolds settled on the Sunshine Coast in 2022.

Unable to find an old-fashioned cocktail as good as the one he made at home, he noticed a gap in the market for a mobile cocktail lounge.

With 15 years’ experience as a chippie, Mr Reynolds spent months restoring a 1973 Ford Transit van.

Daniel Reynolds creates signature cocktails from the 1970s van.

“The inspiration stemmed from the love of creativity and craftsmanship, and the desire to offer something unique and memorable,” Mr Reynolds told Sunshine Coast News.

“My goal was to merge the aesthetics of a hidden speakeasy bar with a van, so you wouldn’t expect it to be what it is when you get inside the van.

“The impression it gives on guests is priceless. I love seeing their expression on their faces when they see what’s inside.”

1973 Cocktail Bar is available to hire for functions, events and weddings across Noosa and the Sunshine Coast, with guests loving his range of signature cocktails.

The interior is designed to reflect a speakeasy bar.

This includes Mr Reynolds’ take on an ‘old fashioned’ – a smoky, bourbon-based masterpiece with a twist of banana liqueur, hickory smoke and rosemary.

“My signature cocktails have always been a hit with family and friends,” he said.

“You can’t go wrong with my old fashioned. I came up with the smoky bourbon and banana old fashioned by experimenting with flavours.

“The smoky aspect was inspired by the rising popularity of smoked cocktails and the whole experience of seeing it being made.

“My 1973 old fashioned is definitely my most requested drink.”

Mr Reynolds said guests could expect a fully customised experience with a tailored cocktail menu and luxurious, laid-back vibe.

“The cocktail bar is a stunning backdrop for photos, perfect for creating memories,” he said.

“It’s a conversation starter, from all the knick-knacks on the walls. There is always something to look at.”
