Police have charged a man who was allegedly armed with scissors and threatening people at Kawana Shoppingworld on Friday.

A 41-year-old Caboolture man has been charged with one count each of going armed so as to cause fear, stealing, wilful damage, trespass and commit public nuisance.

The man was denied police bail and did not apply for bail when he appeared in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Saturday by phone.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Police were called to the shopping centre at Buddina around 11.40am to reports that a man armed with scissors was causing a disturbance and making threats.

Members of the public made a citizens’ arrest before police arrived and took a man into custody.

No one was physically injured during the incident and police have said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
