A main route between the hinterland and the coast is set to get $20 million of improvements.

A section of Eumundi-Noosa Road, between Lenehans Lane at Doonan and Beckmans Road at Noosaville, will be upgraded to prioritise safety and efficiency.

Works will include installing wide centre line treatment, road widening and resurfacing, removing roadside hazards and providing sealed shoulders, safer road markings and provisions for bike riders.

Works should start within the next few months, weather and construction scheduling permitting.

The project is funded on a 50:50 basis under the Road Safety Program by the Australian Government and the Queensland Government.

Department of Transport and Main Roads North Coast regional director Scott Whitaker said road safety was the department’s “top priority”.

The section of Eumundi-Noosa Road that will be made safer.

“With over 15,000 vehicles using Eumundi-Noosa Road each day, this is a critical route for both the local community and tourists, and the project will provide a safer and smoother journey for all,” he said.

“This section of Eumundi-Noosa Road has a significant crash history despite the relatively low traffic volume and the project will improve overall safety for all road users.

“Eumundi-Noosa Road is part of the department’s Principal Cycle Network and the safety improvements will encourage safer, more frequent bike riding along this scenic route.”
