A Sunshine Coast man has swapped his morning cereal for champagne to celebrate his “mind-altering” $50 million win in last night’s Oz Lotto draw.

The Landsborough man held the only division one-winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1573, drawn on Tuesday, April 9. He takes home the entire $50 million jackpot.

It is the third-biggest win of any lottery game so far in 2024.

While officials from The Lott attempted to reach out to the new multi-millionaire last night, the winner didn’t discover his good fortune until this morning when he saw multiple missed calls.

“I’m sort of in shock. Is that true?” he said.

“Oh my god! It’s not big, mate. It’s mind-blowing!

“I’m shaking.

“I slept peacefully last night as I’d left my phone in another room. I had no idea until I saw all the missed calls this morning. I thought, ‘that’s unusual’. Then I heard the voicemail and thought, ‘this is getting weird’.

“I’ve gone through the ticket 15 times! Sh*t!

“This is mind-altering. It means I can resign from work – that’ll be it!

“When my bank manager asked me years ago what my retirement plans, I said, ‘to win the lottery’. He just laughed at me. Well, I have!

“Another thing will be paying off the mortgage. That’s the very first thing. For the first time, I’m going to own my house outright.

“I don’t know how to feel. You made my day, made my life!

“I know it’s only early morning, but I think we’ll pop some champagne to celebrate.”

The man’s winning six-game QuickPick entry was purchased on The Lott website.

So far this year, there have been four Oz Lotto division one wins across Australia that have collectively taken home $90 million in prize money – with two wins each in Queensland and New South Wales.

In addition to the sole division one winner in last night’s Oz Lotto draw, 881,769 winners across divisions two to seven who collected more than $19 million. This includes 14 division two winners who each pocketed $49,961.40.

The winning numbers were 18, 28, 2, 4, 1, 47 and 37, while the supplementary numbers were 11, 24 and 27.
