Feedback is being sought on a proposed new transport corridor that could have a big impact on Sunshine Coast commuters.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is seeking feedback for Stage 4 of the Bruce Highway Western Alternative (BHWA) between Beerburrum and Moodlu, about 6km west of Caboolture.
The government hopes the future BHWA will ease congestion, foster community connections and support future growth outlined in the latest SEQ Regional Plan, including the Elimbah future development area.
TMR is urging the community to share their opinions on the possible corridor options for Stage 4, before the consultation period ends on Friday, February 9.
“This once-in-a-generation infrastructure project is being planned in response to our rapidly growing region,” TMR North Coast regional director Scott Whitaker said.
“With the forecast growth across South-East Queensland, a new, alternative road west of the Bruce Highway will boost the capacity of the transport network, reduce congestion and future-proof the enviable lifestyle enjoyed by residents in the area.
“Community consultation is an important part of major projects like this, to make sure we are delivering the best outcome for the community.
“It is great to see the high levels of interest the community has shown throughout the consultation period and I encourage anyone that has not yet provided feedback to join the conversation and help shape the Moreton Bay region.”

Since the launch of the consultation on November 30, TMR said it had engaged with more than 500 community members at information sessions held across Elimbah, Wamuran and Beerburrum.
More than 300 individual feedback submissions have been received.
“Once the consultation closes, all feedback will be carefully considered before advancing further technical investigations to determine a preferred corridor alignment, including consideration of alternate corridor alignments,” TMR said.
“TMR would like to assure the community that no decision has been made on a preferred alignment for Stage 4 and corridor options presented are subject to change. Property impacts are not known at this time.”
The department said early planning and community consultation was progressing in four stages to identify land that needed to be protected for the future motorway.
Planning for Stage 1 and Stage 2 is complete between Moodlu and Narangba, with more than 22km protected for a future state-controlled road.
Investigations into corridor options for Stage 3 between Narangba and north Brisbane are ongoing, and early feedback on Stage 4 continues to be invited.
