When it comes to a medical diagnosis, advances in technology have come a long way to ensure an accurate and reliable process.
With Prostate Cancer Awareness Month running across September, it is a chance to shine a light on the important work of one of the region’s most experienced radiology centres.
Sunshine Coast Radiology has been caring for the Sunshine Coast community since 2007, in that time gaining a reputation for its excellence in diagnostics.
Sunshine Coast Radiology services include x-rays, MRIs, CT scans and ultrasounds, plus integrated pain management and nuclear medicine options.
Its extended network of practices also includes advanced women’s imaging and breast diagnostic specialists, providing a supportive atmosphere with high-quality women’s imaging.
Sunshine Coast Radiology general manager Sharon Hinchley said its range of diagnostic imaging served to support the healthcare needs of the community and deliver the best health outcomes for patients.
“Each year we compassionately care for our patients, performing over 180,000 exams across our six sites, delivered by our dedicated team of over 200 local staff,” Ms Hinchley said.
“We understand that behind every scan, every image, there is a life waiting to be impacted positively.
“That’s why we approach every diagnostic process with the utmost care, precision and compassion.”
A large focus for Sunshine Coast Radiology is community engagement and an emphasis on regularly raising awareness for health concerns.
This includes for men, who through a referral from their GP can undergo an MRI that can help detect prostate cancer.
According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, it the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, claiming the lives of 10 men every day, with more than 24,000 diagnosed each year.
Ms Hinchley said the prostate multi-parametric MRI was a non-invasive examination that had emerged recently as the best examination available for detecting prostate concerns.
“Sunshine Coast Radiology has invested in cutting-edge MRI technology to provide accurate high-resolution images of the prostate,” Ms Hinchley said.
“Offering clearer, detailed images of soft tissue and organs, especially the prostate, our prostate MRI facilitates early cancer detection and precise tumour assessment.
“It can determine if the cancer is prevalent or not, or whether it is entirely inside the prostate gland or has spread to nearby or distant organs.
“This cutting-edge approach enhances diagnosis and empowers effective treatment and disease management.”
Sunshine Coast Radiology’s clinics are at Warana, Nambour, Maroochydore, Buderim, Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Nambour Selangor Private Hospital.
A clinic has also been announced for the Noosa Civic Medihub, which is expected to open mid-2024.
Widely recognised and respected throughout Australia for quality imaging, diagnostics and patient care, Sunshine Coast Radiology was inducted into the Sunshine Coast Business Awards Hall of Fame in 2017 for excellence in business.
